Virginia’s involvement with gold

Virginia’s exploration activities are centred in Quebec. With a proven history of discoveries and high auriferous potential, Quebec offers exceptional soil for prospecting auriferous deposits. This is why about 70 % of Virginia’s projects are gold projects.

 


Gold in James Bay

Virginia has always believed in the gold potential of the James Bay area and in 2004 and 2005 the Éléonore deposit was discovered, which is considered to be the most significant gold discovery in Canada in the last 20 years. The Éléonore deposit was the fourth significant gold discovery made by Virginia in James Bay. Virginia strongly believes that this will not be the last deposit to be found in James Bay.

 


Gold in Quebec

We can see diversity in the metals that are extracted from Quebec’s mines. There are 14 auriferous producers in the province. Quebec is the second most important gold producer in Canada. During the past five years, Agnico Eagle announced the discovery of a very important auriferous reserve at the La Ronde, Lapa and Golbex. These deposits of close to 70 million tons are on the road to making the area one of the most important auriferous districts in North America.

 


Gold in the World

Gold has always been one of the most coveted metals in the world. It is found under many different guises and it is extremely rare that it is pure and visible to the eye. Gold can take on several forms, at times as dust, grains, in filaments or in nuggets but most often it appears in combination with other metals or minerals. The unique properties of gold form a material that is difficult to replicate. Gold is brilliant, malleable, ductile, conductive and chemically inert. It is therefore much sought-after for different uses like jewellery, electronics and high technology, as well as in the making of medals and coins. We should bear in mind that gold is also an international currency.
